Monday Fire Ravages Former Art Printing Shop

PORTER TOWNSHIP – Two state police fire marshals were investigating Tuesday for the cause of a Monday afternoon fire which gutted the former Art Printing Shop just off Route 64 between Mill Hall and Lamar.

Nittany Valley firemen were first on the scene and additional help was summoned as flames consumed the building to the rear of the former home of the late Art Condo who had operated a printing business there for many years. Firemen were able to save the attached home of current occupants Walter and Bernice Williams.

The former print shop was used most recently for storage according to Nittany Valley deputy fire chief John Stoltzfus. He said the initial view was that a wood burning stove may have caused the blaze.
The fire prompted a detour on Route 64 as firemen battled the flames which sent black smoke several hundred feet in the air.
