PINE CREEK TOWNSHP – State police say it was a forced entry followed by a shooting in the overnight hours which resulted in the death of a Jersey Shore man in Pine Creek Township.

Police and the office of Clinton County District Attorney Dave Strouse released a mid-afternoon update on the incident that occurred at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday in a trailer home at 925 Fourth Street, just to the east of Avis. For the first time they said a shooting was involved in the death of Cody J. Englert, 30, of Jersey Shore.

The updated release:

“On 9/13/17 at approximately 0150 hours, Cody Englert forced entry into a home located at 925 Fourth Street, Avis. PA. Englert was shot by a known resident of that location and died at the scene. The known resident is cooperating with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, but there is no threat to the public.”

A criminal investigator from state police in Montoursville was going door-to-door questioning neighbors near the incident scene Wednesday morning as police combed the interior of the residence where the shooting occurred.

A neighbor told therecord-online she heard a loud noise overnight and believed it may have been a door slamming. She said a man and woman and a number of grade school children had moved into the home at 925 Fourth Street earlier this year. She said those children often played with hers.
