Woman Killed in Clearfield County Traffic Accident

HOUTZDALE — A Lock Haven woman lost her life in a three-vehicle accident near Houtzdale in Clearfield County Sunday evening.

State police at Clearfield identified the victim as Mary Teresa Caprio, 70, of Lock Haven; she was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash which occurred at 6:15 p.m. Sunday. The mishap took place on Route 53 in Woodward Township, Clearfield County.

Police said she was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Gary Stover, 71, of Clearfield. He suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to UPMC Hospital in Altoona. A spokesperson there on Monday morning said he was in critical condition.

The police report said the crash was triggered when a utility vehicle driven by Gregory Millinder Jr., 31, of Madera, was southbound on Route 53; he lost control of his vehicle which crossed into the northbound lane and struck the rear of a vehicle containing Gary and Mary Gillette of Moshannon. The Millinder vehicle then crashed head-on into the Stover vehicle. All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

The Gillettes were transported to UPMC in Altoona. Millender and an 8-year-old in his vehicle escaped with minor injuries. State police in Clearfield said they are treating the case as a DUI fatal crash. They ask anyone with information to contact them at 814-857-3800.
