Lady Wildcats Earn 8-5 Victory over Shik
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Lady Wildcats softball team put in another workman like performance picking up an 8-5 win over visiting Shikellamy. The win moves Central Mountain to 5-1, 3-0 in the PHAC.
CM held the Lady Braves scoreless in the top of the first inning then went to work on offense when leadoff batter, Jose Dershem waited patiently drove the ball deep to the outfield on a full count for a triple.
Morgan Miller came up next and put the ball in play for a fielder’s choice that scored Dershem. The Lady ‘Cats scored again in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Skylar Smith, the first of her varsity career, that gave Central Mountain a 2-0 lead.
Both teams then waited until the third inning to add to their score with Shik picking up a run in the top of the inning and Central Mountain responding with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half.
In the bottom of the third, Caitlyn Brush led off with a single, then later scored on an RBI double from Morgan Wetzel who then scored on a base hit by Bailee Renninger. Averie Pringle, stepping in as a courtesy runner for Renninger stole second base and later scored on a wild pitch to put Central Mountain up 5-2.
Shikellamy put together a couple of base hits, a walk and a passed ball to score three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Once again, the Lady Wildcats responded in kind with 3 more runs of their own.
Starting at the top of the order in the bottom of the fourth inning, Dershem worked a walk followed by a double from Miller, then Smith had a base hit with Wentzel pounding out her second double of the game that extended the CM lead to 8-4.
Shikellamy tacked on another run in the top of the seventh inning but the Lady Wildcat defense held and ended the game with the 8-5 final.
Brush went the distance in the circle for the Lady ‘Cats earning her fifth win of the season.
Central Mountain will be off for the Easter break and return to action on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 on the road at Selinsgrove.
