For the Record – March 13, 2014

The cat plays too …

Mary Shon of Renovo called this week up to tell me that she, like me, gets caught up in Solitaire games on her computer. But she doesn’t play alone. Her cat, Kitty, watches and tries to catch the cards as they whiz in place.

Good news from the Sons for PRR …

As Tom Tarantella Jr. opened the PRR meeting at Yesterday’s Restaurant Tuesday evening he told everyone that the Renovo Sons of Italy lodge has given them a check for $500. The PRR group is among the local non-profit organizations to receive donations from the Sons this year. This year by the way, the Sons have divided $20,000 among organizations in Western Clinton County.

Generation after generation …

Speaking of the Tarantella’s, I’ve noticed that the family is involved in community service, generation after generation. When I moved here Vera Tarantella was the tax collector in Renovo. Her sons John, Tom and Vince are all military veterans and are involved in community service organizations in Chapman Township and Renovo. And their sons and daughters and their spouses are all involved in the communities where they live.

Pizza on the house …

After the PRR meeting held at Yesterday’s Tuesday night, restaurant owner Greg Lucabaugh served delicious looking pizzas to those attending. I’m told the pizza tasted as good as it looked. Thanks Greg and Gina.

Spring cleanup …

Lee Walker, chairman of the Community Trade Association committee for community improvement said Tuesday a spring area community cleanup for Western Clinton County has been set for Saturday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. eight dumpsters will be placed in the area, some in

Chapman and Noyes townships, Renovo and South Renovo boroughs.

The county commissioners will pay fifty percent of the cost of the dumpsters. Last fall the county paid for 10 of 14 dumpsters used. This year, they said, they are only financing half of the cost. “The idea is to get the area cleaned up, not to hoard it for a year, Commissioner Jeff Snyder said. It’s also to help WCC area to help itself.

Walker said there will be me changes from the fall cleanup. This time they will not be accepting mattresses or box springs, sofas or large chairs. The committee will be putting out more e information as we. get closer to the cleanup date.

The cleanup includes all of Western Clinton County. Walker said when visitors come to the area they see Renovo as starting at the Hyner Bridge and going the whole way Westport.

Rumor has it …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but the word is that much of Renovo council’s meeting discussion since the first year has had to do with the police department. The conversation should be changing after the area PRR meeting this week. The other municipalities are poised to work together to improve the quality of life here and the plans and ideas all need Renovo as part of the rehabilitation recipe.

C.O.G. meetings …

Tim Horner of Chapman Township reminds us the Western Clinton County C.O.G. are meetings held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the South Renovo Borough building.
