elect-2016LOCK HAVEN — Clinton County went solidly Republican in Tuesday voting with one notable exception: state Rep. Mike Hanna (D-Clinton/Centre) earned a 14th term in the Capitol.

The House minority whip bucked a Republican tide in Clinton County. With all 34 precincts reporting, he carried the county with 7,959 votes to 6,887 for Republican challenger Stephanie Borowicz. Final numbers from Centre County showed Hanna with 3,016 votes to 2,820 for Borowicz. The overall final totals:  Hanna 10,975, Borowicz with 9,707, a 53 to 47 percent margin.

Hanna accepted post-election congratulations from family members and well-wishers at the Saloon in Lock Haven, arriving there after he continued a long post-election tradition of gathering up his signs placed throughout the district.

In interviews with the media Hanna thanked his supporters and the voters of the far-flung district. He noted Republican Party officials in Harrisburg had “targeted” him for removal earlier this year and hundreds of thousands of dollars flowed into the district from both parties.

Hanna spent the day at a Benner Township precinct in the Centre County portion of the 76th; his opponent Borowicz also logged time there. Hanna ran well across much of Clinton County with the exception of the Sugar Valley area.

Otherwise the GOP dominated Clinton County where the voter turnout was 67 percent. Republican congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson led the way with 10,187 votes to 4,325 for Democratic challenger Kerith Strano Taylor. Next in line in voter support in the county was Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump with 9,665 to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s 4,517, a margin of 65 percent to 30 percent.

Allison Township was the first county precinct into the Garden Building and all 34 precincts had reported in before 10 p.m.
