Walton, Bald Eagles Rush Past Cheyney, 51-12
CHEYNEY – Caleb Walton (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two more to spark an offensive effort that led Lock Haven University football team (1-5, 1-2 PSAC East) past Cheyney University (1-5, 0-3 PSAC East), 51-12 today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
The victory was the first of the season for the Bald Eagles, who beat Cheyney for the fifth straight time and improved to 19-1 all-time vs. the Wolves.
It was another special game for Walton, LHU’s record-breaking quarterback and today’s effort certainly pushed Lock Haven to the big road-win.
Walton threw for 200 yards and hit three different players on TD-receptions.
The Bald Eagles rushed for four touchdowns on the day including two from Walton to go along with two from Ralph Hyland (Philadelphia/Frankford).
As a team, LHU racked up season-high 249 yards on the ground. Thanks to Walton’s 200-yards through the air, Lock Haven accumulated 449 total yards of offense in the win.
With 2:31 left in the first quarter, Walton scored on an 11-yard run and it was all Lock Haven from there. Early in the second quarter – Walton did it again – this time on a seven-yard run, which put LHU up 14-0. The Bald Eagles led 27-0 at half and led 30-0 before Cheyney finally got on the board in the third quarter.
Malyk Harris (Harrisburg, Pa./Albright College) rushed for 86 yards and was one of three players who hauled in a TD-catch.
Kahsim Buey (State College, Pa./Williamsport) and Nysir Minney-Gratz (Easton, Pa./Easton) also caught TD-passes. Buey had a team-high six catches.
John Ford (Etters, Pa./Shippensburg) rushed for 50 yards on eight carries and Hyland went for 47 yards on seven attempts, which included a 23-yard TD run and a two-yard TD run.
Walton, who was 11 for 19 passing (200 yards; 3 TDs) rounded out a solid day rushing for LHU with 50 yards on six carries.
Defensively, the Bald Eagles were up to the task today.
Isaiah Flamer (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) recorded a game-high eight tackles, while Christian Martir(Reading, Pa./Wyomissing), Kevin Chapple (Columbus, Ohio/Urbana) and Rahjeir Miles-Eubanks(Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) all had seven stops.
Martir also had three TFLs, while both Chapple and Eubanks added two apiece. Eubanks was all over the field and also forced two fumbles, recovering one. Chapple force a fumble and Carlos Balkcom(Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) had an interception.
Walton now has 59 career TD passes and is just two away from breaking the all-time school record. His five total touchdowns today give him 68 career TDs responsible for and he’s just four away from breaking that school record as well.
The Bald Eagles will return home to host Millersville University on Saturday, October 15 at 2 p.m. The Week 7 PSAC East game marks LHU’s 2016 Homecoming Game.
