City Receives State Grant for Multiple Improvements
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, announced today that the City of Lock Haven received $274,500 in grant funding from the state’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
Hanna said the city will use the funds to reconstruct numerous handicap ramps and pave portions of W. Walnut and Pearl Streets, provide 15 low- to moderate-income homeowners with sidewalk repairs, create a four-bed emergency shelter for the homeless and purchase multi-sensory equipment to help expand the types of activities that are offered to the Clinton County Community Connections’ disabled clients.
“Every little bit helps. Among other things, this funding enables Clinton County to better accommodate individuals who are living with disabilities, homeless or those who just need a little assistance upgrading the sidewalks in front of their homes,” Hanna said.
Hanna said construction for the West Walnut Street and Pearl Street paving projects, as well as the city-wide sidewalk replacement project will begin May 2017. Construction for the emergency shelter renovation project will begin September 2017.
The Community Development Block Grant Program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, which provides federal funds to develop viable communities through the provision of modest housing and a suitable living environment. Funds are also used to expand economic opportunities geared to low-and moderate-income individuals and to improve infrastructure critical to community health and welfare.
