cm-baseballMILL HALL—The Central Mountain baseball team keeps rolling through its Heartland Conference competition, the latest today’s 8-1 win over Milton. The victory put the Wildcats at 13-1 on the season, 9-0 in league play.

It was another team victory, punctuated by another mound gem from right-hander Alex Garbrick. The Wildcat senior went the distance with a 2-hitter, striking out 16 Panthers and walking only one. The only Milton run came in the top of the first off a Brandon Stokes triple and an Alex Garcia sacrifice fly. Otherwise Garbrick allowed only two other baserunners, a walk in the third and a single in the seventh.

Central Mountain’s offense was spread out, eight different players totaling 9 hits, led by Brandon Miller’s double and single; he also made a great running catch in centerfield, robbing Jim Hare of extra bases.

The Wildcats set the tempo early: Toner Corl led off and drilled the first pitch he saw for a double, after a Milton error advanced him to third Wyatt Koch brought him home with a sacrifice fly. Issac Porter followed with a double and Cole Reeder with an RBI single for a 3-1 lead after one.

“I’m very pleased with how we approached the game tonight,” said CM head coach, Mike Kramer, “These guys are just staying consistent … being consistent is huge in baseball. Staying in control, putting good swings on balls, playing solid defense then Alex Garbrick throwing a gem of a game after giving up a hit early then coming back t sit them down in order.”

“It was a team effort,” added Kramer, “When we had runners in scoring position, we had guys who came through in the clutch. We had guys come off the bench and contribute today.”

The second inning saw a 2-run double from Talon Falls, this after Miller’s leadoff double. Toner Corl had a sacrifice fly RBI in the third and Austyn Carson came off the bench with an RBI single in the fifth, scoring Miller who had singled.

Central Mountain has won 12 games in a row and travels to Selinsgrove (5-2) tomorrow followed by a Friday Senior Day game at Mill Hall Community Park against Montoursville (2-5).
