LHU Softball Selected to NCAA Tournament
INDIANPOLIS – The Lock Haven University softball team has been selected to the 2016 NCAA Division II Tournament field.
The Bald Eagles have earned the No. 7 seed in the Atlantic Region and will open the tournament vs. No. 2 Charleston (at Charleston) on Thursday, May 5 at 2:30 p.m.
Lock Haven is 36-17 overall and went 3-2 at last week’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
LHU will open tournament play in the Atlantic Region 2 bracket and Charleston, by way of its No. 2 seed will serve as the host for that portion of the bracket. No. 3 West Chester will take on No. 6 Kutztown.
West Virginia Wesleyan is the top seed in the Atlantic Region 1 bracket and will take on No. 8 Winston-Salem State in the opener there. No. 4 Bloomsburg and No. 5 California will meet in a rematch of the PSAC Championship game.
The Atlantic 1 and 2 Regionals will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 5-7.
LHU and Charleston met back on March 12 in Florida, and the Bald Eagles won 2-1. At the time, it marked the first loss of the season for Charleston pitcher Alli Burdette. Charleston finished the season at 45-9 and Burdette’s loss to Lock Haven ended up being one of just three on the season (27-3).
Lock Haven has won 12 of its last 17 games.
