news-break-feaFARWELL – Details have been released on a Tuesday morning truck theft from along the Renovo Road in Farwell, an incident which state police say resulted in charges against the truck thief and the truck owner who pursued him and allegedly beat him up.

Darryl Wayne McDermit Jr, 33, of Renovo has been charged with theft, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence and driving while suspended. The owner of the stolen truck, Robert William Jackson II, 42, of Farwell has been charged with reckless endangering another person and harassment.

State police provided a detailed narrative of the incident which began at 6 a.m. Tuesday. Their report alleges that McDermit was attempting to walk from Renovo to Lock Haven after a night of drinking. “Upon reaching the area of the Bucktail High School McDermit grew tired of walking and decided to look for a vehicle to steal. He came upon a 2008 Ford F-250 parked at 1118 Central Ave, Chapman Twp. that was unlocked and had its keys inside the truck. McDermit entered the vehicle, started it up and began to drive off. The owner of the vehicle, Robert William Jackson II, was up at the time and heard his truck start and upon walking outside he observed it driving away. Jackson got into his other vehicle, a Ford Mustang, and gave chase. Jackson pursued McDermit east on SR120 and north on Hyner Run Rd. After traveling approximately 2-3 miles on Hyner Run Rd, Jackson intentionally struck his Ford F-250 with his Ford Mustang causing it to hit an embankment and flip over approximately three times onto its roof in the middle of Hyner Run Rd. Jackson then exited his Mustang and pulled McDermit from the F-250 passenger side door window and proceeded to beat him. McDermit was able to escape from Jackson and ran into the woods.”

At that point, police said, five state police officers responded to the scene. With assistance from Union County Sheriff Ernest Ritter, Deputy Sheriff David Schaffer and K9 Rosey, McDermit was “pushed out of the woods” and arrested along Hyner Run Road. McDermit was later taken to Lock Haven Hospital for a blood draw and committed to the Clinton County Correctional Facility.
