For the Record – July 23, 2015

It’s Christmas in July …

It’s July 25 and in Renovo it’s Christmas in July with a cookie contest and a holiday celebration Saturday at the Christmas in July celebration at the Flaming Foliage lot in Renovo. There is no charge to enter the contest. Just bake your favorite (or try a new one) cookies and take them the FFF lot. The Christmas in July is the first of what could possibly be an annual festivity for Renovo. There will be assorted games and activities and vendors will be on hand. The annual cow pucky event – featuring a live cow – will also be held July 25.

Name dropping …

If I were the kind of person who engages in name dropping, I would be sure to head to Millbrook Summer Theater. As it turns out I am, and each time I’ve been there this summer I’ve seen quite a few Renovo area residents. Two people I’ve seen each time I visited this summer are Martena Rogers a former music teacher in Renovo and the Renovo Area Community Choir accompanist, and Aaron Kelley of Farwell who has appeared in both Queen of Bingo and Dial M for Murder. Both Martena and Aaron are part of the theater family group. Aaron’s parents, Bob and Linda Kelley were in the audience each time cheering on their son.

Budstock lineup …

The Seventh Street Band may be joining others who have said they’ll be on board for the Renovo jam, Budstock event on August 29. The event is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bud & The Dynamics. Rumor has it a couple of native musicians may be traveling from Florida for the anniversary celebration. The line up to date includes: Gordy Scrimshaw, Captain Ken, Mitch Gavlock, Drocton Hill, Robert Werts, Phil Reeder, Phil Ponish, the Praise Band, Larry Sherman the one man band of Beech Creek and Duane Eberhart. Local guitarist Mitch Gavlock will appear on stage at 3:30 p.m.

Heritage Park organizers are hoping more musicians will join in the festivities. For more information or to be part of Budstock call and leave a message at: 570-660-4176, 570-923-2927 or 570-923-1915. Vendors are also welcome.

It was a spaghetti mobile …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but the rumor I related last week that Renovo’s own Charles Maxwell once owned the coolest lasagna-mobile in the area erroneous. The word for Charlie himself is that it was a spaghetti mobile.

Chapman community picnic …

Chapman Township is hosting a Community Picnic, providing the hamburgers and hot dogs.

The event is FREE and EVERYONE IS WELCOME . Just bring a dish to share, please.
