Walter S. Bierly, 85
Walter S. Bierly, 85, of Jersey Shore, passed away December 28, 2025, at his home.
Born on April 4th, 1940, in Jersey Shore, Walter was the son of the late Walter L. and Ferol Romaine Kramer Bierly. He was a lifelong resident of Jersey Shore, where he touched the lives of many in his community and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Walter graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1958 and went on to serve his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy. He continued serving Veteran’s through his devoted time with the Jersey Shore VFW Honor Guard where Walter participated in over 800 Veteran’s funeral honors services.
He was a member of the Jersey Shore VFW and Lock Haven 40 & 8 Club.
Walter dedicated many years to working in the maintenance department at Danville State Hospital, retiring in 2000 after a long and honorable career.
In 1963, Walter married the former Donna Rae Calhoun, who survives him after 63 blessed years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family and shared many cherished memories. Walter is also survived by his son, Mark W. Bierly of Lock Haven; his daughter, Beth (Dan) Peters of New Mexico; one grandchild, Brett (Kirstin) McCloskey of Lock Haven; two great grandchildren, Charlotte and Violet McCloskey; two nieces, Kae Weber and Hazel (Mike) Weaver; and a nephew, George (Laura) Weber.
Walter was preceded in death by two sisters, Anne Bierly Todd and Romaine “Sparky” Weber.
His warmth, humor, and dedication will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at a later date.
