Lady Bucks roll past host Galeton to take third place
By Bees O’Brien
GALETON- Bucktail Lady Bucks head coach Suellen Wagner couldn’t have asked for a better start to her squad’s consolation contest against the host Galeton Lady Tigers. Behind 10 points from Kendall Wagner and 8 points from Kelsie Wagner and a total team effort on defense, Bucktail pitched an 18-0 first quarter shut out.
Galeton finally found their way on the scoreboard in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers netted 4 points, but the Lady Bucks just kept coming in the second quarter and their 13-point effort had Bucktail up 31-4 at the break.
The game was well in hand to start the second half, which allowed Coach Wagner to unload her bench. The younger, less experienced Bucktail players played balanced basketball. Bucktail’s 11-2 third quarter seen their lead jump to 42-6.
Bucktail’s Olivia Henderson’s fourth quarter basket was her team’s only points in the frame. Galeton’s offensive troubles continued as they only managed just two points in the final frame to set the final.
Galeton dropped to 0-3 on the season, while the Lady Bucks improved to 1-1.
Bucktail will be looking to follow up their third-place finish on Monday when they open their home schedule in Farwell against West Branch (0-2).
Kendall Wagner finished the night with 25 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the new season. Kelsie Wagner scored 11 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Olivia Henderson netted 4 points. Emma George and Arionna Winkelman each chipped in two points each.
Austin defeated Williamson 43-17 in the championship game. Bucktail will get a shot at redemption against the Lady Panthers on January 19 when the Lady Bucks travel to Austin.
