By Bees O’Brien
GALETON- The 2025 Lady Bucks of Bucktail opened their season at the annual Galeton Tip-Off Tournament on Friday afternoon against the Lady Panthers of Austin. Offensive struggles were present from both sides and in the end it would be the District 9 squad handing Bucktail a loss by a close margin of 33-24.
The Lady Bucks were without senior Eva Sockman.
Senior Kendall Wagner and freshman Kelsie Wagner stepped up and combined to score all 24 Bucktail points.
Both teams came out of the gates on fire with Austin holding a 15-12 lead after one quarter. The offense then disappeared for both squads. Bucktail’s slim 5-4 advantage in the second quarter had the Lady Bucks trailing 19-17 at the break.
The Lady Panthers used a 13-5 third quarter advantage to hold a 32-22 lead heading into the final quarter.
Austin’s shooting went cold again and opened up a chance for Bucktail. The Lady Bucks held Austin to just a single point, but could only manage just 2 points in the final quarter to set the final.
Kelsie Wagner led Bucktail with 13 points and Kendall Wagner added 11 in the loss. Miyah Devlin led Bucktail with 7 rebounds.
Bucktail (0-1) moved into the consolation round on Saturday where they will meet host Galeton (0-1), a 54-8 loser to Williamson on Friday afternoon.
