Optimist’s Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

On Sunday we celebrated Christ the King as our liturgical year in the church designates that day to celebrate that Jesus is our King. It is a time to honor Jesus as the ruler of all creation.

It is also our time this week to remember to give thanks. In the book of Thessalonians 5:16-18,the apostle Paul reminds us to rejoice always, give thanks continually, pray constantly for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
It will be a time for families to gather to enjoy delicious food, watch a lot of football games or maybe the Macy’s parade. It is a time for our loved ones to come home once again if they have been away. At holiday times it is also a chance to remember those whose lives have changed because someone they loved has left this earth they are grieving. In the midst of that grief, we have to remember the happy times and the love that was shared while they lived.

On this next Sunday, we will began the Advent season as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus in our churches and homes. In our community we will have church services on Wednesday evenings. It is such a nice time to gather as fellow believers at different churches.

There will be a Christmas parade also to bring in the season of peace, joy, hope and love. We have a lot to be thankful for in our small community, so let us be thankful and celebrate the many joys of the season!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!
