Bucktail Powder Puff game a success for a good cause
By Bees O’Brien
FARWELL- On Thursday night seniors Evan and Laura Ransom’s senior project came full circuit in the fight to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
The Bucktail seniors put together a powder puff contest that featured girls from seventh grade to seniors and the game had plenty of exciting play.
Makenna Stone led her Smashers by blistering the opposing Ironettes for 150 yards on just seven attempts on the ground and a pair of touchdown runs and teammate Kelsie Wagner added 45 rushing, passed for 58 yards and had a key second half interception. Wagner’s play was enough to grab the team MVP.
The Smashers took the opening kickoff 75 yards and burned up twelve minutes of clock time. The drive was capped on a 17-yard score from Stone to give her squad a 6-0 lead with 18 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Ironettes moved the ball well behind the play of Kendall Wagner and Lola English, but the Smashers refused to bend on defense.
The Smashers managed a late score in the second half with 22 seconds remaining when Wagner connected with Eva Sockman on an 18-yard scoring strike to extend their lead.
Kendall Wagner’s 41 yards on the ground and her 58 yards passing earned her the MVP for the Ironettes. Olivia Henderson took home the trash talker award. Henderson, a freshman made multiple big plays on offense for the Smashers.
Henderson had 33 yards on just two carries. Her 25-yard run late in the first half set up the Wagner to Sockman scoring strike.
The Smasher defense held the Ironettes the entire second half, including a late goalline stand.
That defensive stop set up the play of the nightt when the speedy Makenna Stone broke free on a 90-yard run to set the 18-0 final.
Also taking part was multiple Bucktail boys, who played the role of a cheerleading squad that entertained the crowd throughout the night. They also provided an excellent and entertaining halftime show.
The Bucktail band was also present in the fundraising event as well.
For Evan and Laura Ransom, their senior project was a true success and loved by all in attendance.
