By Bees O’Brien
FARWELL- It’s a rarity when Bucktail meets Central Mountain in a varsity athletic competition, but Monday night in Farwell the two Keystone Central rivals met on the tennis court.
The Lady Wildcats entered against the red-hot Lady Bucks without three-time PIAA state champion Addison Lindsay in their lineup.
Bucktail entered the match with a five-match winning streak, that included big wins over Montgomery and Jersey Shore and strong showings in singles and a crucial doubles win seen their streak extend to six in row with a stunning 3-2 win.
Eva Sockman cruised 6-2, 6-0 over Lucy Walker at number one. Kendall Wagner was tested at number two by Lane Walker in a hard fought 6-3, 6-4 win.
The Lady Wildcats picked up a win in a thriller at number three when Kassie Williams downed Lola English 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Bucktail’s senior and freshman combination of McKenna Bissman and Kelsie Wagner knocked off Audra Eaton and Kylee Markle 6-2, 6-4 in what was the deciding match.
Seniors Eva Sockman, McKenna Bissman, Kendall Wagner and Lola English were also honored as part of Senior Night.
The Lady Wildcats did get a victory in the second doubles match when Tess Akeley and Leah Wian defeated Carrie Ditty and Riley Salizonni 6-2, 6-2.
Bucktail improved to 11-1 and will host South Williamsport on Thursday in a match that will decide the Mid Penn Conference championship.
