Shamokin Tops Central Mountain, 35-7
MILL HALL – Central Mountain finally broke through the goal line Friday night, scoring its first touchdown of the season in a 35-7 loss against visiting Shamokin.
The Wildcats trailed 35-0 heading into the fourth quarter before Alex Johnson tossed a lateral pass to Mario Serafini, who then launched a deep ball down the right sideline to Ricky Rohrbach. Rohrbach hauled it in and raced to the end zone for a 50-yard touchdown with just over three minutes left. Mycah Carson tacked on the extra point, giving Central Mountain its first touchdown of the fall and a bright spot to celebrate.
Dalton McDermott led the Wildcats’ ground game with 37 yards on 11 carries, while quarterback Kyle Everett completed five passes for 20 yards. Rohrbach emerged as the top target in the passing game, finishing with two catches for 62 yards and the late touchdown.
Defensively, Central Mountain forced a turnover and had stretches of strong play up front, but Shamokin’s powerful rushing attack proved difficult to contain. The Indians piled up 305 rushing yards, led by Zakem Clinton’s 145 yards and a score and Logan Steele’s 87 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Barrett Walsh added a 16-yard touchdown strike to Trey Taylor in the third quarter.
Shamokin scored three times in the opening quarter and held a 28-0 halftime advantage before putting the game away in the third.
For Central Mountain, finally breaking into the end zone could serve as a turning point as the Wildcats continue to grow and search for momentum in the second half of the season. The Wildcats are set to travel to Shikellamy Friday for a 7p.m. start. Shikellamy played Jersey Shore and lost to the Bulldogs 42-14.
