DAR Meeting Notes

RENOVO – The Renovo Chapter DAR was opened by the Regent, Chris Haas assisted by Clara Barrows, chaplain.

The President’s General’s message was read by Marilyn Short.  “Please promote DAR to your community” says Lynn Young, President General.  We are encouraged by celebrating accomplishments by including a Chapter history minute.  Visit the DAR store online and assist prospective chapter members with their applications.

The Indian Minute was read by Chris Haas.  Red Jacket made peace with the Americans after the Revolution.  In 1792 when he visited Philadelphia, he was presented by George Washington with a medal bearing the President’s own likeness.

The Constitutional Minute was read by Chris Haas.  Alexander Hamilton worked with John Jay and James Madison on a series of papers called the Federalist Papers as propaganda for the Constitution.  He served as the first US Secretary of the treasury from 1789-1795.

Helen Newlen reported on National Defense.  A non-citizen of the US can join the armed forces.  There are certain restrictions, but 35,000 non citizens served in the military.  Many immigrants flock to the US seeking political freedom and the opportunity to achieve.

Let’s thank these men and women who are serving their adopted country and pride.

Women’s issues were reported by Chris Haas.  She read an article on Mother’s Day to honor all the mother’s present at our meeting.

Joy Grenell will be distributing flags to our first graders and the special education classes.

DAR discussed the placing of flags on the graves of the members for Memorial Day.

The program for the evening was given by Sandra Krepps.  She told about some amazing women of the Revolutionary War.  Mary Washington had a great influence on the first president of the United States.  Lucy Flucker Knox gave numerous years to fighting freedom.  Mercy Otis Warren worked hard for equal rights for woman.  Nancy Hart had a hot temper.  There were many other women of great importance during the Revolutionary War.
