Shikellamy edges Central Mountain in tight match
SUNBURY– The Central Mountain girls tennis team came up just short on the road Tuesday afternoon, falling 3-2 to Shikellamy in a competitive PHAC matchup.
In singles play, freshman Lucy Walker continued her strong start to the season with a straight-sets win over Emmy Underkoffler, 6-0, 6-1. Teammate Kassie Williams also secured a victory, topping Emma S. by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Shikellamy’s Camryn Marlow claimed the deciding point in singles, rallying after dropping the second set to defeat Lane Walker, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
The doubles matches proved to be the difference. Shikellamy’s pairings of Makenna Hoffman and Mariela Lainez, along with Izzy Kremer and Grace Dunkleberger, earned hard-fought victories to secure the team win. Hoffman and Lainez downed Audra Eaton and Tessa Akeley 6-3, 6-1, while Kremer and Dunkleberger outlasted Kelee Markle and Leah Wian 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
The Lady Wildcats will be back into action home on Thursday hosting Central Columbia.
