Optimist’s Roundtable
By Martha Sykes
So many things happen in this world that sometimes we just don’t understand or we just can’t explain why. Kids are good at asking why or how things happen and we can explain some but not all of the answers to their questions. We have learned in Isaiah 55:8-9, “My thoughts are not like your thoughts. And your ways are not like my ways. The heavens are higher than the earth and my ways are higher than your ways,” declares the Lord. “My thoughts are higher than your thoughts.”
This week, we woke up to the news that our country had sent B52 bombers on a 36 hour flight to destroy bunkers in Iran. It is hard for us to understand how much knowledge it takes to make that trip and hit exactly the right spot.
Just like with the knowledge we have of God’s ways not being like our ways, we realize that there is so much more to the story than we know. Whatever happens in our world, we have to trust that God is omniscient, omnipotent and all-loving. We can learn from the Bible about God’s nature, but the scriptures also tell us that people sin, people suffer, tragedy occurs and there will be always be questions that we can’t answer until we leave this world and see Jesus face to face.
In the end, just as our country trusts our leaders and our military, we can trust God’s design, knowledge and His character that is all part of His love and care for us. Pray for our world. He is listening.
