Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

As Jesus sat with his disciples on the mount of Olives, one of them asked him what the earth would be like in the last days. As part of his answer, he reminded them of what it was like in the days of Noah. (Matthew 24:37).

What was the condition of the earth in those days? What did God see when he looked down from heaven? He saw the great wickedness of mankind. He saw that there was only evil all the time (Genesis 6:5)

These were the days of Noah. There was also corruption and violence before God. (V.11) The violence was actually terrorism. It was then that God revealed to Noah that the end was near. He was about to destroy the people of the earth. (V. 13)

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (V.8) His wife, his three sons, and their wives, were spared because of the grace of God. Before the flood came, they went into the ark and were saved. Someone has given us this acrostic: A.R. K. All in danger. Refuge provided. Kept safely.

The eyes of the Lord beheld all the wickedness and evil in the days of Noah. The prophet Zechariah declared that the eyes of the Lord were running to and fro through the whole earth in his day. (4:10)

And it is the same today. The eyes and ears are open to hear our prayers, but his face is against the evil. (I Peter 3:12) As the Lord looks down from heaven, does he see and hear you praying?

Remember, Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
