Softball drops road doubleheader at No. 16 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN – The Lock Haven softball team visited No. 16 Kutztown for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Bald Eagles dropped the twinbill to the national-ranked Golden Bears, 9-0 and 3-2.

Lock Haven moves to 9-13 overall and 3-9 in the PSAC East. Kutztown improves to 23-6 on the year and 7-3 in conference play.

In game one, Kutztown got off to a hot start with two runs in the bottom of the first, before tacking on seven more runs in the later innings to secure the run-rule victory.

Blaire Balestrini and Madison Melius recorded hits for the Bald Eagles.

Melius has five hits in her last three games.

Abby Robertson and Keri Wesneski took the mound for The Haven.

Game 2 Recap: No. 16 Kutztown 3, Lock Haven 2

In the nightcap, Kutztown scored a run in the first before adding two runs in the bottom of the fourth to build a 3-0 advantage.

Balestrini put the Bald Eagles on the board in the top of the fifth with an RBI sacrifice fly, plating Madeline Millard.

Robertson drove in Riley Best in the top of the seventh, but the Golden Bears recorded the final out to secure the sweep.

Up next for The Haven:

The Bald Eagles return home and will host Bloomsburg in a PSAC East doubleheader at Lawrence Field starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (April 1).
