LHU’s Fratangelo and Schmitt back-to-back homers power Softball to split with Millersville
LOCK HAVEN – Bella Schmitt and Maria Fratangelo hit back-to-back home runs to power the Lock Haven softball team to a 3-2 victory in game two of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader against Millersville at Lawrence Field on Saturday. The Marauders won game one 18-2.
The Bald Eagles have split three series in a row to open their PSAC Eastern Division schedule, coming against Mansfield, Millersville and West Chester. Following Saturday’s action, The Haven is now 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC East.
Lock Haven played four games at Lawrence Field this weekend and opened up its home schedule 2-2 after splitting with Millersville and West Chester.
West Chester moves to 14-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
Schmitt homered in each game of the doubleheader and Frantangelo wrapped up a stellar weekend with her third big fly and ninth RBI.
Game 2 Recap: Lock Haven 3 – West Chester 2
In the nightcap, Talia Ross earned her fourth victory on the mound for The Haven as she pitched a complete game and allowed just two runs on seven hits and struck out seven Marauders sluggers.
Fresh off a seven-RBI, two-home run game yesterday, Fratangelo belted her third big fly of the weekend in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2.
Bella Schmitt followed with her second home run of the day to make it back-to-back for round trippers for The Haven, who would hold on for the victory thanks to lights out pitching from Ross.
Maci Brodzina chipped in two hits and scored on the Fratangelo homer.
Game 1 Recap: West Chester 18 – Lock Haven 2
In game one, West Chester put up croaked numbers in three separate innings, capped off by an eight-run top of the fifth to earn the run rule victory.
Schmitt homered and reached base twice and Robertson doubled in a run to highlight the Bald Eagles’ offense.
