Wagner grabs 500th rebound in Lady Bucks loss
By Bees O’Brien
WILLIAMSPORT- Bucktail junior Kendall Wagner has had a very productive winter season. Wagner has found great success on the wrestling mats and her ability to balance two sports, led her to entering Tuesday’s Lady Bucks road contest just 3 rebounds shy of reaching the 500 rebound milestone.
Wagner swallowed up three quick rebounds and joined Julie Green and Quincey Johnson as the only Bucktail girls to reach that plateau.
St. John Neumann provided Bucktail with a stiff opposition. The home Lady Knights took advantage of poor Bucktail shooting and turnovers to keep the Lady Bucks from ever getting much of anything going offensively. Neumann built a 12-4 lead after one quarter and just kept things rolling.
A 7-4 second quarter gave Neumann a comfortable 19-8 lead at the half.
Bucktail miscues continued to mount up in the third quarter. The Lady Knights lead extended to 33-14 following a 14-6 St. John Neumann run.
Bucktail found themselves at the wrong end of a 12-7 fourth quarter to set the 45-21 final.
Wagner led the Lady Bucks with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Matti Mason netted 6 points. Eva Sockman, who is quickly closing in on 500 rebounds herself finished with 4 points and 17 rebounds.
The win upped St. John Neumann’s overall season mark to 8-8, while Bucktail fell to 4-13.
“Turnovers and missed shots killed us tonight.” Head coach Suellen Wagner added “We need to reset for tomorrow’s Senior Night against West Branch.”
That game against the Lady Warriors is set for 6pm Wednesday night at Bucktail. The Lady Bucks already own a 27-25 victory over West Branch back on December 27.
