LHU’s Robinson notches nine steals, Women’s Basketball falls to West Chester

LOCK HAVEN– The Lock Haven women’s basketball team fell for the first time in five games, as West Chester downed the Bald Eagles 58-43 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) inside Thomas Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1).

With the result, the Bald Eagles move to 14-6 overall and 9-4 in the PSAC. Lock Haven remains in first place in the Eastern Division, holding a one-game lead in the win column.

The Golden Rams improve to 9-12 on the season and 7-8 in conference play.

Reigning PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week Alana Robinson recorded a career-high nine steals, which is the most for any player in the conference this season and is the second highest total in Bald Eagles’ program history. The program record of 14 was set during the 2008-09 season.

Robinson also blocked three shots, dished out a game-high six assists, pulled in six rebounds and netted eight points.

Madeline Evans recorded her eighth double-double of the season and finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. Evans did her damage at the charity stripe, where she knocked down 10-of-12 shots. Evans made all 10 of the Bald Eagles’ free throws.

Jendadia Jordan added 10 points and three assists.

The Golden Rams won the game on the defensive end, where they held Lock Haven to 26 percent (15-of-57) from the floor and forced 16 turnovers.

Lock Haven remained in the game by forcing a game-high 17 turnovers and recording a game-high 14 steals, but couldn’t overcome the deficit on the offensive end.

West Chester built a 12-8 lead after the opening period, but Lock Haven edged the Golden Rams, 14-13, in the second to trim its deficit to 25-21 heading into the break.

However, West Chester shots 54 percent (7-of-13) from the floor in the third quarter and outscored the Bald Eagles 18-8 to start to pull away.

Michelle Kozicki led the way for West Chester with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double.

The Bald Eagles hit the road for a PSAC East contest at Kutztown on Wednesday night (Feb. 5) at 5:30 p.m.
