LHU Men’s Wrestling marks return home with 42-6 win over Kent State

LOCK HAVENThe Lock Haven men’s wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts and the Bald Eagles picked up bonus points in six of those wins as they returned home and earned a lopsided 42-6 win over Kent State (1-10, 0-4 MAC) tonight (Friday, Jan. 25) in Mid-American Conference (MAC) action.

Lock Haven recorded three pins, a tech fall, and one major decision. The Bald Eagles added three wins by decision and picked up a victory by way of forfeit on the night.

The Bald Eagles rattled off nine straight wins after falling in the night’s opening bout at 125 pounds.

Nick Stampoulos (157 lbs.), No. 31 Avery Bassett (174 lbs.) and No. 17 Gavin Hoffman (285 lbs.) all won by pin. No. 16 Anthony Noto won by tech fall at 133 pounds and No. 23 Colin Fegley won by major at 184. No. 17 Wyatt Henson won by forfeit at 141.

Stampoulos pinned Dominic Paterra in 2:42 and Bassett pinned Waylon Wehler in just 1:58. Hoffman closed the match with a pin in the night’s final bout to highlight his Thomas Fieldhouse debut. Hoffman was up big when he earned the fall at the 4:54 mark.

Noto earned his 99th career win at The Haven with a clinical 19-4 tech fall over Adan Benavidez. The two-time All-American will look to join Lock Haven’s 100-win club on Sunday at George Mason.

Fegley majored Trent Thomas 12-3

No. 32 Lucas Kapusta downed Nate Roth 8-3 at 157, Caden Dobbins dropped Carson Miller 6-1 at 165 and No. 27 Tucker Hogan topped Blake Shaffer 7-3 at 197.

With the win, Lock Haven extended its win streak to four matches and improved to 8-5 overall on the season. The Bald Eagles are 2-0 in MAC action and remained perfect at home on the season at 3-0. Tonight’s victory over Kent State marked Lock Haven’s first home dual since a Dec. 8, 2024 win over Wisconsin.
