Andrus and Clester Second, Lady Phoenix Finish Seventh

MIFFLINTOWN-Evangeline Andrus and Marrin Clester both earned second place finishes, while the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School Lady Phoenix took a seventh place finish at the Juniata High School girls wrestling tournament on Sunday.
The Lady Spartans of Hughesville captured the team title with 256 points, while the Lady Seals of Selinsgrove placed second with 221 points. Shiklellamy placed third with 207 points and then West Perry was in a distant fourth place with 111 points.
The tournament was broken into two brackets, the Round Robin bracket and the Double Elimination bracket. The Round Robin bracket was for the weights that only had four or less wrestlers entered, while the weights that had larger numbers were wrestled in the traditional double elimination form.
The Lady Phoenixs’ Marrin Clester took second place in the round robin bracket at 190 pounds, as she posted a 1-2 record, but with the girls beating one another her stats gave her the second place finish to Katelyn Krepps of Juniata, who posted a 3-0 record in the weight class.
In the double elimination bracket portion, the Lady Phoenixs’ Evangeline Andrus posted a 2-1 record on the day, as she dropped a 3-0 decision to Rylee Campbell of Shikellamy in the championship finals at 124 pounds to finish in second place.
Aaliyah Hopkins (118) and Olivia Johnson (136) both went 1-2 on the day, as both girls dropped their consolation semifinal bouts to just miss placing in the top four at their weights, while Kohana Yamashita (112) also went 1-2 on the day, but lost her second match in the consolation quarterfinals.
The Lady Phoenix will be back in tournament action this coming Saturday, as they will compete in the Lady Mountie Invitational at Philipsburg-Osceola and the on Saturday, January 25th, they will compete in the Bald Eagle Area Tournament in Wingate.
