Lady Wildcats Finish Third in Clearfield Tournament

CLEARFIELD- The Central Mountain Lady Wildcats varsity wrestling squad came away with a third place finish at the six-team Clearfield Lady Bisons Tournament on Saturday. Austynn Falls (148) and Kendall Wagner (170) both took titles at their respective weights to lead the Lady Wildcats.
While Falls and Wagner were winning first place honors at their weights, other Lady Wildcats place winners were Ashlynn Miller (235) and Emma Scasrborough-Perez (118) both won second place finishes, while Kaitlyn Scarborough-Perez (112) and Jacey Tripp (235) took third place finishes and Mallory Wunder (130) finished in fourth at their weight class.
The host Clearfield captured the team title, as the Lady Bisons finished with 129.5 points, outdistancing second place Huntingdon with 90.5 points. The Lady Wildcats were close behind in third with 88 points, while the Lady Mounties of Philipsburg-Osceola finished fourth with 78.5 points. Bellefonte (41 pts) and Altoona (31 pts) rounded out the six team field.
Falls captured her title at 148 with two falls over Clearfields’ Alara Quickel, the first coming in 1:40 of the first period and then the second came in 1:09 of the first period. Wagner captured her title at 170 with two falls, as the first came in 1:43 of the second period over Aylee Johnston of Clearfield and then in the second round she pinned Bailee Scott of Bellefonte in 1:37 of the second period.
Emma Scarborough-Perez posted a 2-1 record at 118 pounds to earn her second place finish, as she opened the day with a fall in 25 seconds of the second period over Shyanna Brandt of Huntingdon. In round two she pinned Gabbie Duncan of Clearfield in just 54 seconds, but then in round three she lost by fall in 1:59 to Halee Grubb of Huntingdon.
Miller (235) opened the day by pinning Lindsey Boose of Altoona in just 26 seconds and then in round two she pinned teammate Jacey Tripp in 42 seconds of the first period. In round three she lost by fall to Daisy Glessner in 46 seconds of the first period to finish 2-1 on the day.
Kaitlyn Scarborough-Perez (112) had the most matches to wrestle in her weight class, as she posted a 2-2 record for the third place finish. In round one she pinned Aaliyah Noel of Altoona in just 16 seconds and then had a bye in round 2. In round three she fell by tech fall to Kylie Knepp of Clearfield 25-9 and then in round four she lost by fall to Sierra Pandolfino of Huntingdon in 3:37. She finished the day by pinning Allison Cardarelli of Huntingdon in 58 seconds.
Tripp went 1-2 on the day, as she lost her opening match to Glessner of Clearfield by fall in 4:24 and then in round two dropped her match to teammate Miller. In the third round Tripp pinned Boose of Altoona in 2:31 to finish in fourth place.
Freshman Mallory Wunder lost all three of her bouts at 130 pounds, as lost by falls to Kendy Meersand of Philipsburg-Osceola, Angela Rougeaux of Cleafield and Victoria Schellenberg of Bellefonte to finish in fourth of the four person weight class.
The next action for the Lady Wildcats will be on Saturday, January 18 in the Lady Mounties Invitational at Philipsburg-Osceola High School and then on Saturday, January 25th they will be in the Lady Eagles of Bald EAgle Area Tournament.
