McCloskey and Berry Place For Phoenix

BLOOMSBURG- Senior Jarren McCloskey and Sophomore Hunter Berry took place finishes at the Darren Klingerman Invitational Tournament at Bloomsburg High School on Saturday. McCloskey took a sixth place finish at 133, while Berry took an eighth place finish at 114 pounds for the Sugar Valley Rural Charter School Phoenix.
McCloskey reached the championship semifinals on Friday, but on Saturday dropped three straight bouts to finish in sixth place, as he dropped a 6-3 decision to Cole Lamberton of tournament team champion Honesdale in the Fifth place consolation bout.
Berry fell in the consolation quarterfinals and then in the consolation 7th place bout he was pinned by Honesdales’ Brady Walsh in 1:43 of the first period. Berry along with McCloskey both finished with 2-3 records in the 24 team tournament.
The rest of the Phoenix tournament line-up and their tournament records saw Koda Mincer (285) go 2-2, while Logan Leland (172) went 1-2. Leroy Culvey (114), Taylor Cantolina (121), Wyatt Conoway (145), Connor Ohl (160) and Brendan Galentine (215) all lost both of their bouts.
Honesdale won the team title with 174.5 points, while Crestwood was second with 163.5 points and Hughesville finished third with 145.5 points. Red Land with 144.5 points and Warrior Run with 144 points rounded out the top five teams. The Phoenix finished 22nd in the 24 team field with 40.5 points.
The Phoenix will host Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Wednesday and then travel to Blue Mountain High School on Friday for the PM Gauntlet Duals Tournament.
