Second-half lead slips away from LHU Women’s Basketball vs. No. 7 Fairmont State
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team led by 12 in the second half, but the nation’s No. 7 ranked team Fairmont State clawed its way back to steal a 78-70 victory on the final day of the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) Challenge on Saturday night (Nov. 9) inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lock Haven and Fairmont State both move to 1-1 overall to start the 2024-25 season.
Madeline Evans secured her second straight double-double to land on the All-Tournament team after scoring 16 points and pulling in 10 rebounds. Evans finished with an impressive 18-point, 20-rebound double-double in the opener.
Jenadia Jordan led Lock Haven in scoring as she poured in 17 points to go with eight rebounds, two blocks and three assists.
After an impressive debut in the season opener, Kiera Baughman finished in double figures for the second straight game and finished with 14 points and four assists.
Rhlyn Rouse led the second unit with 13 points.
The Bald Eagles led from the jump and built its highest-lead to 48-36 midway through the third period.
However, the Falcons outscored The Haven 17-8 to close out the third quarter to cut the deficit to three entering the final period.
Baughman opened the fourth with a midrange jumper to extend Lock Haven’s advantage back to five (58-53), but the Falcons erupted on a 12-0 run over the ensuing three minutes to lead 65-58 with just under seven minutes remaining.
Baughman and Jordan scored four straight points to trim the Bald Eagles’ deficit to three with 4:32 to go, but that was as close as Lock Haven would get as the Falcons went on another run to close out the come-from-behind victory.
In the opening game of the night, Seton Hill ran away with a 120-77 victory over Concord.
