LHU Men’s Basketball falls to Bowie State in double-overtime thriller
BOWIE, Md. – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team concluded its weekend in Maryland at the Bowie State Tip-Off Classic on Saturday night, Nov. 9. The Bald Eagles fell to host Bowie State, 85-80, in a double-overtime thriller.
Eli Washington led all scorers and four Bald Eagles in double figures by scoring 19 points, while knocking down 10-of-10 shots at the charity stripe. Washington added a game-high seven assists and pulled in six rebounds.
Isaiah Stewart drilled a 3-pointer to send the game into a second overtime and finished with 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Gabe Springer and Blake Deegan rounded out the Bald Eagles in double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Deegan and Bryson Scott also pulled in seven rebounds.
With two minutes remaining in regulation and trailing 57-56, the Bald Eagles went on a 5-0 run sparked by back-to-back buckets in the paint by Stewart and Scott to put Lock Haven up three with 1:12 to go.
However, the Bulldogs drilled the game-tying 3-pointer with 46 seconds to go and neither team scored from there to send the game into overtime.
In the first OT, the Bulldogs came out on fire from 3-point land but couldn’t pull away as Washington scored all eight of Lock Haven’s points to make it 71-68, Bowie State, with 21 seconds to go.
Lock Haven drew up a perfect play for Stewart out of a timeout and the junior drilled the game-tying trifecta with one second to go to send the game into a second overtime.
However, Bowie State shot 67 percent from the floor in the second OT and outscored Lock Haven, 14-9, to secure the victory.
In the first half, Lock Haven built a 30-26 lead powered behind its defense, which held Bulldogs to 33 percent shooting.
The Bald Eagles move to 0-2 overall and Bowie State improves to 1-1.

The Bald Eagles remain on the road and will travel to Georgian Court on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. for a non-conference game.
