St. Mary’s- The annual District 9 League all star selections were made on Wednesday night and Bucktail received honors. The Bucks finished winless and last in Region 3, but a trio of players earned recognition for their efforts.

Seniors Gavin Yachymiak and Brody Pentz, along with Evan Ransom were all named to the Region 3 all-star unit.

Yachymiak and Pentz grabbed defensive honors with Ransom grabbing a spot on the interior line.

Ransom joined Cameron County’s Max Newton, Coudersport’s Hunter Woodard, Smethport’s Braydon Cosper and Otto-Eldred’s Charlie Minard. Minard also grabbed the offensive lineman of the year within the region. Otto-Eldred’s outstanding quarterback Shane Magee was named offensive MVP of Region 3.

Pentz and Yachymiak’s defensive efforts were recognized. Pentz once again locked up a Region 3 spot at linebacker. Pentz racked up a team-high 67 stops on the season, including a game-high 14 stops against Sheffield on Senior Night. Pentz was also a threat on the offensive side of things. The senior quarterback would rush for 1,118 yards, 7 touchdowns, pass for 586 yards, throw 6 touchdowns and caught an 18-yard pass for a touchdown.

Yachymiak’s 40 stops on the season was good enough for second best on Bucktail and good enough to earn him an all star spot on the Region 3 defense. Yachymiak was also the Bucks’ leading receiver with 176 yards on 17 catches and three touchdowns.
