Election Results: East Keating Township merger with Noyes gets support
By Christopher Miller
LOCK HAVEN – Voters have spoken in western Clinton County in favor of merging East Keating and Noyes Townships in the unofficial results listed Tuesday night.
A total of 208 voters from Noyes and East Keating Township came forth Tuesday to cast their ballots with 180 voting yes, and 24 voting against the merger of the townships, ending East Keating Township as we know it on January 1, 2025: only 18 days shy of its 150th birthday.
Voter turnout for Noyes Township was at an all-time high of 84.45% and 77.78% for East Keating.
Though the village of Keating will still exist, the name of the municipality on maps and official documents will change as of January 1.
Citing a dwindling population, aging workforce, and a lack of time to keep up with maintenance of township roads, a possible merger between the townships was brought up at a formal meeting held in late-July.
Next steps involve the legalities of the merger, most costs associated with it being able to be covered by various grants.
