LHU Women’s Wrestling ranked No. 17; pair of Bald Eagles ranked individually
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven women’s wrestling team will start the 2024-25 season ranked No. 17, and both Grace Stem and Lily Sherer are ranked individually.
Today (Oct. 27), the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released the preseason NCAA women’s coaches’ rankings and Lock Haven was listed at No. 17 in the country.
Stem will enter the season ranked fourth at 138 and Sherer is slated ninth at 131.
Last season, the Bald Eagles reached as high as No. 7 in the national rankings and sent six wrestlers to the 2024 NCWWC National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a team, the Bald Eagles secured two All-Americans and finished seventh out of the 30 qualifying schools, their highest finish in program history.
In 2023-24, Sherer and Stem led the Bald Eagles to a silver medal at the 2024 Region 1 Championships, hosted by Lock Haven.
A two-time reigning All-American, Stem finished fourth at 136 after going 4-2 overall over the two days of competition last season. Stem earned her trip to Iowa by claiming gold at 136 at the Region 1 Championship.
As a junior, Sherer qualified for the National Tournament after a fourth-place finish at the Region I Championships and finished with a 2-2 record at the national meet. Sherer earned All-American status as a sophomore after finishing eighth at the National Championships.
The Bald Eagles will open the 2024-25 season at the Princeton Open on Sunday (Nov. 3).
