Troy Rolls Past Central Mountain 62-10
MILL HALL – The Central Mountain Wildcats fell to the undefeated Troy Trojans 62-10 on Friday night at Malinak Stadium. The Wildcats, still searching for their first win of the season, had no answer for Troy’s explosive offense, which jumped out to a commanding lead early and never looked back.
Troy, entering the game with an 8-0 record, wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Brendan Gilliland’s 12-yard touchdown run just over two minutes into the game set the tone. Lincoln Chimics followed up with a 70-yard punt return touchdown and then added a 30-yard rushing score on the next possession. By the end of the first quarter, Troy led 28-0.
The Trojans continued to pour it on in the second quarter. Quarterback Evan Woodward threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Mason Smith and then connected with Reed Palmer for a 5-yard score. Chimics hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Woodward, and Jack Burbage added a 4-yard rushing touchdown. Central Mountain finally got on the board with a 32-yard field goal from Mycah Carson late in the second quarter, but Troy quickly answered with a 36-yard touchdown run by Kael Millard to take a 55-3 lead into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, Central Mountain managed to find the end zone in the fourth. Cooper Bottorf powered in a 1-yard touchdown run, and Carson added the extra point. Troy capped off the scoring with a 19-yard run by Marcus Frisbie, though the PAT was missed.
Troy finished the game with 328 total yards, including 179 on the ground and 148 through the air. Central Mountain struggled offensively, managing 170 total yards, with 70 rushing yards on 41 attempts.
The Wildcats’ defense saw a standout performance from Bryce Brungard, who recorded two sacks. On offense, Gavin Heverly led the receiving corps with three catches for 67 yards.
With the loss, Central Mountain dropped to 0-9 on the season. They will face neighboring rival Jersey Shore next week.
