LHU Volleyball wins second straight PSAC East match, downs Kutztown on the road

KUTZTOWN – The Lock Haven volleyball team defeated Kutztown University in a five-set match, 3-2 (25-14, 25-19, 14-25, 23-25, 18-16), in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match on the road on Friday evening (Oct. 11).

The Bald Eagles kick off their weekend road trip with a victory to improve to 2-2 in the PSAC East and 4-8 overall, The Golden Bears fall to 1-16 overall and 0-4 in conference.

Lock Haven has now won back-to-back matches in the PSAC East.

The Bald Eagles dominated early and built a 2-0 match lead after earning 25-14 and 25-19 victories in the first two sets.

However, the Golden Bears countered with victories in the third and fourth set to force a winner-take-all fifth set.

During the race to 15, the Golden Bears jumped out to a 12-7 lead, before the Bald Eagles clawed their way back to knot the score at 13-13.

The Bald Eagles rode the momentum from there, and Alyssa Daley scored two of the final three points with a block and a kill to secure Lock Haven’s 3-2 match victory.

In the match, Daley racked up nine kills and 5.5 total blocks.

Kelly Gaston helped ignite the Lock Haven attack and finished with 40 assists, three aces, and 11 digs.

Reagan Irons, Gracelynn Wolzen, and Maggie Rafferty totaled three aces each for The Haven, which finished with a match-high of 14.

Wolzen led the team in kills with 15, while Evie Jane Rembold finished with 13 kills and three total blocks. Olivia Cook added eight kills and 2.5 blocks.

Natalie Acevedo led the defense with 20 digs, while adding two aces.

Lock Haven led the match with 52 kills.

The Bald Eagles returned to action tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, Oct. 12) when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 1 p.m. PSAC East match.
