LHU Men’s Wrestling taking things outside with Midday Matness
In what has become an annual tradition of late, the nationally-ranked men’s wrestling team is set to hold an outdoor practice to help usher in a new season.
LOCK HAVEN – Practice officially gets underway this week for NCAA Division I men’s wrestling programs across the nation, and in traditional fashion, the nationally-ranked Lock Haven men’s wrestling team is set to hold an outdoor practice as part of the Bald Eagles’ 2024-25 Midday Matness event.
This year’s Midday Matness is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 1:30-3 p.m. Check out the Bald Eagles between Stevenson Library and the Ivy Lane Fountain – ahead of the highly anticipated 2024-25 season.
Lock Haven will open the season ranked No. 25 (tie) in InterMat Wrestling’s preseason tournament team rankings. FloWrestling has the Bald Eagles tabbed 23rd to start the season.
Four Bald Eagles are listed in InterMat’s individual weight-by-weight rankings including two-time All-American Anthony Noto, who is ranked No. 2 at 125 pounds. The senior-standout is coming off a third-place finish at last season’s national tournament and looking to cap his already remarkable Bald Eagle career in style in Philadelphia at the 2025 NCAA Championships in March.
Returning national qualifiers Gable Strickland and Wyatt Henson will enter the year ranked No. 29 (133 lbs.) and No. 27 (141 lbs.), respectively. Redshirt-sophomore transfer Nick Stampoulos is ranked No. 31 at 157 pounds. Stampoulos was a national qualifier last season for Buffalo.
Noto, Strickland and Henson are all ranked in FloWrestling’s individual preseason rankings as well. Noto leads the way at No. 2, while both Strickland and Henson are ranked No. 24 at their respective weight class. Strickland, a two-time NCAA qualifier, picked up his first career victory on the big stage last March in Kansas City. Henson is a two-time NCAA national championship qualifier, who won gold for Team USA in June at the U23 Pan-American Championships.
Lock Haven will officially open the season on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Princeton Open.
The Bald Eagles’ 2024-25 schedule features eight home events including six dual matches. The first home event will come on Thursday, Nov. 14 when the Bald Eagles host longtime local rival Bloomsburg. The Mid-American Conference (MAC) dual will start at 7 p.m. The full schedule is available at GoLHU.com.
