Possible changes for Riverfest, Terrapin decision due Oct. 4, and more discussed at Woodward meeting

WOODWARD TOWNSHIP – Woodward Township Supervisors met Tuesday evening for the monthly meeting.
The township recreation committee met prior to the township supervisors meeting. Not officially part of the meeting, the township scheduled the Easter Egg Hunt in Riverview Park for Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. Trick or Treating within Woodward Township has also been scheduled for Thursday, October 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Supervisors took a brief 15 minutes at the beginning of the meeting for an Executive Session to discuss legal matters concerning zoning and the proposed Terrapin medical marijuana dispensary at the former M&T Bank in Dunnstown. A decision concerning the conditional use permit is due October 4. Township Solicitor Thom Rosamilia is currently drafting correspondence in relation to the conditional use.
Mark Schlesinger of WSQV Radio spoke to the township recreation committee prior to the voting meeting. Schlesinger proposed an idea for Riverfest 2025 to help boost the event.
“He is working with the folks at the American Cancer Society and the township is going to look into some of his ideas, we are also floating some different dates for Riverfest; possibly July 10, 11, and 12 or June 26, 27, and 28. Competing with other events in the area gets difficult in the summer months especially around the July 4 holiday, so we will discuss these ideas more next month,” Township Supervisor Kyle Coleman said.
Dunnstown Fire Company will be getting a new industrial electric wall-mount pressure washer to wash apparatus and help with neutralizing salt in the winter months.
“The benefit to the township is we can use this for all township vehicles to help make them last longer and slow the corrosion process,” Coleman said. The pressure washer comes with a price tag of $3,470.
The Salvation Army is planning a Polar Plunge in the Susquehanna River for Saturday, November 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and asked for permission to use the boat launch and Riverview Park.
Clinton County Planning Department has asked all municipalities in the county to adopt the Broadband Ready Community resolution. The resolution which has been passed on to all municipalities, has multiple options for how the municipality may support the initiative. Woodward Supervisors opted to table the resolution so their solicitor can review the resolution.
The bid for asphalt sealing, walking path cleaning, and painting of handicapped stalls went to Aungst Asphalt Service for their low bid of $7,555.
Parts of Queen’s Run became washed out during the last freak, quick-moving storm a few weeks ago. The heavy rain undercut a turn close to the road and it washed out. A low bid of $8,800 was accepted by the supervisors for the work to be completed in the next two weeks.
Township Supervisors also accepted two gifts from the Clinton County Visitors Bureau Tourism Promotion Committee in the amount of $2,000 to put towards the bathroom project and $1,000 for the fire department toward the purchase of a new pizza oven for Riverfest. Visitors Bureau Director Kira Rosamilia presented the thank you notes and checks, along with a “thank you” for all the township did for the recent Go Joe 27 bike ride benefit event that kicked off on July 22.
