Otto-Eldred Spoils Bucktail Homecoming With 48-22 Downing of Bucks

By Bees O’Brien

FARWELL- Bucktail senior quarterback Brody Pentz did everything in his power to help the Bucks defeat D9 League Region 3 rivals Otto-Eldred on Friday in the 2024 Homecoming Game. Pentz rushed for 214 yards, tossed for a game-high 133 yards, including a pair of scoring strikes and even caught a touchdown pass. Despite all of his heroics, the experienced Terrors had numbers on their side and far too many experienced players.

Otto-Eldred entered the game with commanding wins over both Coudersport and Sheffield, teams that dominated Bucktail already this season.

Terror quarterback Shane Magee would go to work early with a 13 yard scoring strike to 6’4” David Schenfield. Hunter App’s conversion run had the visitors up 8-0. Magee would find Dawson Welch from 10 yards out and another two-point conversion had the visitors up 16-0 with 3:55 left in the quarter.

Bucktail moved the ball well against the Terrors’ first unit throughout the first half, but penalties always seemed to stall every swing in momentum that the Bucks would gain. Bucktail was penalized 9 times for 95 yards in the first half alone.

Jaden Prince’s 12-yard score followed by App’s second two-point conversion built Otto-Eldred’s lead to 24-0.

Bucktail was once again moving the ball on the Terrors’ defense when Manning Splain would take a pick six interception from Pentz 55 yards for the score. App would tack on another two-point conversion to build Otto’s lead to 32-0.

Hunter App would score with 21 seconds remaining in the half. App’s 5-yard run was a small part of the senior’s 113 yard night. Quarterback Shane Magee would convert the two-point conversion to build the visitors’ lead to 40-0 at the break.

At halftime Talan Ditty was named homecoming king and Matti Mason was named homecoming queen for the 2024 school year.

The second half would be played under mercy rule, with Otto-Eldred leading by more than 35 points.

Gavin Yachymiak would put forth his best outing of the season in the second half. Yachymiak would make a stellar catch off of a Pentz pass and score Bucktail’s first points of the night. Yachymiak’s 20 yard catch would come at the 9:11 mark in the third quarter.

Otto’s Jaden Prince would cap off the Terror’s scoring with a 9 yard score, but the try for two would fail.

The Bucks entered the fourth quarter trailing 48-6, but the outnumbered squad kept fighting.

Pentz would find freshman Teagan Stone a 10-yard score with 9 minutes remaining in the game. A Pentz two-point run had Bucktail down 48-14 at this point.

The little engine that could kept on trucking until the very end.

Following a long pass play from Pentz to Yachymiak, the Bucks opened up their bag of tricks. Running back Stephen Heiser would take a direct snap and rifle the ball to Pentz for a 17-yard score with 6 seconds remaining in the game. Yachymiak would catch the two-point conversion to set the 48-22 final.

Yachymiak’s 64 yards receiving was a game-high for all players.

Bucktail fell to 0-3 on the season and will next travel to 0-3 Smethport this coming Friday night.

Otto-Eldred improved to 3-1 and 3-0 within Region 3 and will host Cameron County next in a game that could determine a league title.
