Philadelphia Man Found Guilty in Brutal Renovo Assault

LOCK HAVEN— A Clinton County jury found Zamir Alonzo Nole, 30, of Philadelphia, guilty on all counts, including one count of Aggravated Assault (F1) and one count of Simple Assault (M2) following a trial on September 11, 2024.

The charges stemmed from an incident at the Keystone Hotel bar in Renovo on January 21, 2024, during which the Defendant brutally assaulted a Renovo man, requiring the victim to be life-flighted from Bucktail Hospital to the Geisinger Trauma Center in Danville.

During the trial, the bartender from the Keystone Hotel testified that the victim was trying to break up an argument between his wife and another bar patron, Tyshanek Presley (the Defendant’s sister), when the Defendant punched him, causing him to fall to the floor. The Defendant then jumped on top of the victim and struck the motionless man seven times with his left fist, rendering him unconscious, and then hit him five more times with his right fist.

The victim also took the stand and indicated that while he had no recollection of the events that occurred on January 21, 2024, due to his injuries, he now has multiple permanent scars on his face and vision difficulties in his left eye from the incident.

The Defendant took the stand in his own defense and claimed that his actions were taken in self-defense and in defense of his sister. He indicated that he drove to the Keystone Hotel bar from his “friend’s” house in Dunnstown to pick up his sister, but when he arrived, he decided to come into the bar for a drink.

Nole was represented by attorney Marc Decker, who argued to the jury that his client did not have the benefit of being able to pause life using a remote control to determine whether the victim was a threat to him and his sister and instead made a reasonable decision in the “heat of the moment” and reacted accordingly.

The Commonwealth was represented by First Assistant District Attorney Thom Rosamilia, who argued that while it is true that the Defendant could not pause the situation with a remote control, there were enough natural pauses during the incident to allow the Defendant to properly assess that the victim was not a threat to anyone. The Commonwealth’s case was further supported by video clips from two (2) surveillance cameras at the bar that showed the full extent of the Defendant’s actions. The jury returned a verdict after approximately forty-five (45) minutes of deliberation, finding the Defendant guilty on all counts. Sentencing in the matter is scheduled for October 22, 2024, when Nole faces a maximum penalty of up to twenty (20) years of incarceration.
