Downingtown West Downs Keystone 9-4
ATHENS – The Keystone 9-11 team has been battling in the state tournament. On Friday, the team took on Downingtown West from Section 7 for the winners’ bracket final. Downingtown West emerged victorious with a 9-4 win over Keystone.
Downingtown West scored first, getting four runs across in the second inning. Keystone answered in the fourth inning, tying the game at 4-4. However, Downingtown West added two runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the bottom of the fifth to secure the 9-4 victory.
Keystone tallied 9 hits compared to Downingtown West’s 11. Leading the bats for Keystone was Rylin Bathurst with two hits, both doubles. Other doubles came from Jordan Germello, Dylan McDermott, and Adam Myers. Stafford Ley, Ryker Packech, Karter Markle, and Lukas Bryant each contributed with singles.
On the mound for Keystone, Adam Meyer started, followed by Carter Leone, Dylan McDermott, and Brooks Warner, who closed the game. Combined, they allowed 9 runs on 11 hits, walked 5, and struck out 7. However, errors proved costly, with Keystone committing 8.
With this loss, Keystone will need to battle back in the bracket and win the next three games to claim the state title. Keystone will next be in action on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Athens.
