Keystone Intermediates Clinche State Title in Thrilling Victory Over West Side
NORTH BETHLEHEM-In a high-octane showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats, Keystone Intermediates battled over West Side with a final score of 11-10, securing the state title. The game, held on Monday, July 15, saw both teams battling fiercely, with Keystone ultimately emerging victorious.
Leading the charge for Keystone was Camden Fuller, who put on a spectacular performance with two home runs and six RBIs. His critical hits in the first and fifth innings set the pace for Keystone’s offensive onslaught. The team’s bats were on fire, accumulating 13 hits throughout the game, compared to West Side LL 13u’s eight.
The game started with a bang as Chase Griesser from West Side hit a solo home run to center field in the first inning. Fuller quickly responded with a home run to center field, giving Keystone a 2-1 lead by the bottom of the inning.
West Side turned the tables dramatically in the third inning, scoring nine runs on five hits to take a commanding 10-2 lead. However, Keystone Intermediate wasn’t ready to concede. In the bottom of the fourth, Logan Bower grounded out to score one run, and Bryan Rote hit a solo home run to right field, reducing the deficit to 10-4.
The game took a decisive turn in the bottom of the fifth inning when Fuller, Evan Batterson, and Bower each hit home runs, propelling Keystone Intermediate to an 11-10 lead. The team’s resilience and determination were on full display as they fought back from an eight-run deficit.
Fuller started on the mound and gave up six hits and ten runs (four earned) over three innings, but he also struck out five and walked three. Bower pitched four innings in relief, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out six and walking two.
Keystone will now head to the East Regional tournament in Dover, Delaware.
