Keystone 9-11s Wins Sectional Championship in Athens, PA
ATHENS – In a thrilling showdown at the Sectional Championship Wednesday, the Keystone 9-11 team emerged victorious against Tri-Valley, securing an 11-4 win. Held in Athens, PA the game was delayed for several hours due to bad weather but got underway just after 8p.m.
Keystone’s offense was relentless from the outset, racking up runs in each of the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings. Carter Leone and Brooks Warner got the ball rolling in the first inning, with Leone tripling and Warner grounding out to bring in the first two runs.
The third inning saw Rylin Bathurst delivering a key hit, tripling and driving in two runs, putting Keystone ahead 4-2. Adam Meyer proved to be a significant asset throughout the game, collecting three hits in three at-bats.
On the mound, Dylan McDermott started for Keystone, showcasing his skills by allowing only two earned runs and striking out three over four and one-third innings. McDermott’s control and poise set the tone early, limiting Tri-Valley’s scoring opportunities.
Brooks Warner took over pitching duties later in the game, maintaining Keystone’s lead and shutting down Tri-Valley’s hitters. Warner’s performance was stellar, allowing just one run and striking out three in one and two-thirds innings of relief.
In addition to Meyer’s standout performance, other players who made significant contributions included Rylin Bathurst and Ryker Packech. Hunter Kisko and Brooks Warner also collected multiple hits. Carter Leone’s discipline at the plate earned him two walks, adding to Keystone’s offensive prowess. In all Keystone had 18 hits on the night.
Tri-Valley managed to score in the first and sixth innings, thanks to key hits from Giovanni and Brayden. However, Keystone’s pitchers and defense were too formidable, preventing any major rallies.
Keystone now the Sectional Champion will prepare for the State Tournament held in Athens, PA July 16-22.
