Darbi Simcox: From Gymnastics Dream to Division 1 Reality
MILL HALL – The journey from a tiny gym in Horseheads, NY to the prestigious Division 1 gymnastics stage has been nothing short of remarkable for Darbi Simcox. With unwavering dedication and perseverance, Darbi has etched her name among the elite in the sport, securing her spot as one of less than 500 Division 1 gymnasts nationwide.
Darbi’s passion for gymnastics ignited at the tender age of 5, where her talent swiftly caught the attention of coaches at Head over Heels gym. With each graceful routine, Darbi’s prowess grew, leading her to Dynamats Gymnastics Center in Lock Haven. Under the guidance of coaches Rob Tagge, Melissa Gyurina, Todd Brannon, Emily Fuller, and Monica Missigman, Darbi’s skills flourished, propelling her through the ranks of Xcel-Gold and beyond.
Her ascent to the top echelons of gymnastics was marked by triumphs at every turn. From clinching titles at state and regional championships to representing her region at national competitions, Darbi’s journey was a testament to her unwavering resolve. Despite setbacks like a season-ending injury and the challenges posed by the pandemic, Darbi remained steadfast in her pursuit of excellence.

Following a whirlwind of recruitment visits and deliberations, Darbi made her decision official on April 9th. With an unwavering conviction, she committed to the University of Pittsburgh, where she will join the ranks of the Division 1 gymnastics program in the esteemed ACC conference.
But Darbi’s journey didn’t culminate with her college commitment. In a thrilling display of skill and determination, she soared to victory at the Region 7 Championships, securing her spot on the coveted Region 7 National Team. With stellar performances on the beam and floor, Darbi’s dominance was on full display, earning her yet another beam title and a fifth-place finish in the All-Around.
With an impressive score of 37.6 in the All-Around competition, Darbi’s consistency and excellence shone through, cementing her status as a force to be reckoned with in the gymnastics world. Alongside her fellow Region 7 teammates, Darbi will now set her sights on the DP National Championships in Daytona Beach, FL, where she aims to leave an indelible mark on the national stage.
