LHU Tennis drop first conference match of season at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Lock Haven tennis team fell for the first time in 2023-24 on Saturday afternoon (April 6) in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener, 5-2, to Shepherd University on the road.

After an impressive 5-0 start to the 2023-24 fall and spring season, the Bald Eagles move to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC East. Shepherd improves to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in conference.

In doubles, Shepherd took two out of three matches to earn the doubles-team point for the contest.

At No. 3 doubles, Alaina Marchioni (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Claire Long (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) earned a 6-1 victory, improving their team record to 3-1 and individually improving their doubles record to 4-1 and 3-1, respectively.

In singles play, the Bald Eagles were victorious in two matches.

Marchioni took the victory at No. 5, 6-3 and 6-0, which improves her singles record to 2-0.

At. No. 6, Long, just like her partner for the day, won her singles match 6-3 and 6-1 to improve to 3-0 on the year.

NEXT up for Lock Haven:

The Bald Eagles remain on the road and will visit Bloomsburg for a PSAC East match on Tuesday (April 9) at 4 p.m.
