RENOVO POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Theft By Deception/Fraud
Renovo Police are investigating a theft by deception/fraud incident that took place during January and February 2024 at a residence in Chapman Township. An elderly female fell victim to a scam through a conversation on the internet. Although the victim never saw or talked to the suspect other than online, the suspect was able to convince the victim that he was in the Army, that he was her boyfriend, and that he was going to send her presents by mail. The suspect was able to coax the elderly victim into sending multiple payments, totaling $4,000, and no presents were received as promised. This is one of several scams that residents have fallen victim to recently. Renovo Police would like to remind residents to be very cautious before sending money to anyone that they don’t know and/or have not met. “If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is!!” they said.
