Police News: Robbery in Avis

AVIS-On 2/9/2024 at 9:38 p.m., Pine Creek Township Police were dispatched to the Pantry Store, 101 East Central Avenue, Avis Borough, for a robbery in progress involving a knife.

While en route, officers were advised the suspect had fled the scene and was described as a white male wearing a brown coat, black pants, and a mask. The suspect had displayed a large butcher-style knife and threatened to use the knife during the incident.

Initial officers on the scene obtained information and a description of the suspect to relay to responding officers to do an area search for the suspect. It was learned that a white male wearing a Carhartt-style coat, black pants, white shoes, and a mask had entered the store at 9:36 p.m. while carrying a large butcher-style knife and demanded the safe be opened. The suspect then jumped up on the counter and attempted to access the cash register. The suspect heard the clerk talking to someone and fled the scene.

Through videos provided by surveillance cameras, police have been able to track some movement of the suspect. Police are asking anyone in the general area with outdoor surveillance cameras to view their footage from 2/9/24 between approximately 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. for suspicious persons or vehicles.

Pine Creek Township Police were assisted by Lycoming Regional Police, Lock Haven City Police, and the South Williamsport Police K-9 unit with the incident.
