Behind strong second half, No. 22 LHU Women’s Basketball tops Kutztown
LOCK HAVEN– Over the weekend, the No. 22 Lock Haven women’s basketball team lost its first game in 84 days, but the Bald Eagles bounced back tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 7) at home in a big way as The Haven downed Kutztown University (12-10, 10-6 PSAC), 56-46, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
With the win, Lock Haven hit the 20-win mark as the Bald Eagles improved to 20-2 overall. The Haven is now 15-1 in PSAC action and improved to a perfect 10-0 on the home court in Thomas Fieldhouse.
It marks the most wins in a single season since Lock Haven won 20 (20-10) during the 1990-91 campaign.
Kutztown entered tonight’s PSAC East clash on a five-game streak and the visitors led 31-26 at halftime, but the Bald Eagles responded in a big way during the second half. The Haven used 17-point third quarter that saw the home team outscore KU, 17-6 in the third.
Three different Bald Eagles scored in double figures including Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) who netted a team-high 14 points. Olivia Smith (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) scored 12 points and Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) added 11.
Jordan’s 11 points were part of a double-double as she also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds. Smith and Leidy both finished with five rebounds each. Jordan, Leidy and Smith did it all tonight and finished with six, five and three assists, respectively.
Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) led the defense once again and finished with three blocks. The three blocks tonight pushed her season total to 56 which broke her own single-season record of 53, set last season as a rookie.
In all, Lock Haven’s defense registered eight blocks today, forced 13 turnovers and the Bald Eagles finished with a 44-35 advantage in total rebounds.
